The Consortium of South Hams Artists: Annual Summer Exhibition

The Consortium of South Hams Artists: Annual Summer Exhibition

The exhibition, in the Market Hall in Kingsbridge, features the work of nine local artists, and includes a wide range of fine arts from oil and watercolour painting to mixed media and printmaking.

Local views will, as always, be well represented. Working in oils and with a particular interest in the quality of the light, Allan Green shows a collection of seascapes and coastal and estuary subjects, themes also close to Joyce Houghton’s heart, in paintings which often include figures, usually children. Lesley Meir’s paintings in oils and pastels too are inspired by the light and colours in the Devon landscape, and her subjects include landscapes, beaches, boats and figures, all in soft, muted colours.

In watercolour painting Tony Henderson’s popular of local views are characterised by a light touch and lively markmaking, while Geoff Goodwin’s range of scenery stretches as far afield as Scottish castles.

Brian Harris works in a contemporary style, and presents a collection of small oil paintings of ships and harbours in a naive style.

Printmaking and mixed media will be represented by Maggie Smith and Alison Veazey. Alison’s work is characterised by rich colour and texture in its exploration of landscape and pattern in the dramatic landscapes of the Lake District, while Maggie’s works have their inspiration a little closer to home: the surrounding countryside, local farms, and her own garden.

Sheila Hegenbarth’s decorative hand-made greetings cards incorporate pressed flowers, beads and fabrics - each a little work of art in its own right.
