Contemporary Classics is a collection of work by South Devon artists whose work reflects classical styles, traditional skills and inspirations, but with a contemporary twist:

Anna Grayson makes photographic pastiches of famous works of art. She is a former BBC presenter and science writer.
Martin Dutton is an academician in the South West Academy. He was formerly a lecturer in colour at Bradford, and his paintings are a response to the light and colour in landscape - both in Devon and abroad.
Des Maxwell Clark uses very traditional watercolour techniques to produce his own interpretation of landscapes and natural history subjects. His background is in geomorphology - the study of landscape
Elizabeth Rashley is a well-known printmaker working in Devon, using a limited and soothing colour palette. She has moved from observational science to observational art, using traditional lino-cutting techniques and a very traditional and very old printing press.
Tony Homer is a local art teacher who picks out patterns and colours of local landscapes and townscapes. The local scenes he picks are instantly recognisable, yet his level of abstraction gives a very modern look indeed.
Elisabeth Hadley's fabulous classical bronzes were featured in a previous issue of English Riviera. Her pieces range from life size to table-top and are as classic as you can get.
Lorraine Gilroy is a ceramicist who combines two traditional methods, throwing and hand building to produce beautiful and sculptural pots. She is best known for her classical black stoneware finish, which looks so good alongside the bronzes.
The exhibition starts on 26th May, with an Evening View on Friday 29th May between 7 and 9pm and will finish on 13th June
