Other Peoples Faces: A Portrait Exhibition

Other Peoples Faces: A Portrait Exhibition

Artizan Gallery welcomes a collection of local and national artists to exhibit in this open portrait exhibition, a showcase of artistic representations of identity. As all of our artists will demonstrate, portraits are not just about capturing a face, but the emotion, identity, personality and soul of a person. One of our speakers for this exhibitions art talk, Becky Nuttall, perhaps says it best:

“Portraits are not just faces, sitters and poses. Portraits are objects, settings and themes. In my work I make god in my image, steal the identity of saints, heroes and artists; stand behind them, beside them and in front of them; here I am, wearing their clothes. Using this contraband, I create ‘portraits’ that are a coalescence of allegory and symbols; referencing the nature and implications of theology, religious violence, piety, art, art history, feminism and popular culture - defining and considering how I discovered these in adolescence and how I began to set my gaze upon my identity”

Opening Times: Monday – Saturday 10.30 – 16.30

We have a number of exciting events during this exhibition, including portrait classes, art talks, sittings and poetry, all of which can be found on the creative torbay site or our facebook!

Entry to the exhibition is free.

There is a fully licensed café at the rear of the gallery.
