Torquay's Festive Trail

Torquay's Festive Trail

As part of the Christmas by The Sea series of events brought to you by Torbay Council and kindly sponsored by Ocean BMW....

Across four locations in the town centre there will be a series of unique installations, all based on different artists take on the traditional Christmas carol ‘I saw three ships’.

Join our artists, Urban Canvas, outside the town hall.

They are making their mark on Saturday 26 November outside the town hall, grab some chalk and help them make something beautiful! 10am - 4pm.

Make sure you catch this one ASAP - once it's gone it's gone!

‘Camille’ in Union Square shopping centre

Our Christmas camel named Camille is a baby camel, to represent the coming birth of Christ, the gold cube, the starlit desert on which the 'three ships sailed'.

This design, by Indivizual Designs, was inspired by the beauty and strength of nature. Camille is a beautiful display of England's glorious woodlands. Created using carefully selected pieces of ivy and oak knots, that have been sanded, varnished, waxined and polished and then arranged on a willow frame.

‘The Clockwork Moth’ on Fleet Walk

An original shadow-puppetry film and musical recording based on the carol 'I Saw Three Ships'. The short film will be shown as part of a striking seascape stretching across a large shop front, and featuring beautiful hand-cut silhouettes.

The Clockwork Moth are a husband-and-wife arts duo based on Dartmoor. They take much of their inspiration from stories, history and the bounty of nature seen around us in Devon. Music is by The Hillbilly Girls, who are graduates of Dartington College of Arts.

‘The Three Ships’ at the Tourist Information Centre, Vaughan Parade.

A large scale illuminated installation created by Sarah Butterworth. Sarah draws her inspiration from the character of natural landscapes, underground and aboveground, and she likes to draw out the patterns and shapes that make up the structures of forms we do not necessarily see.

Download the trail leaflet from www.christmasbythesea.org.uk , or collect a leaflet from tourist information centre on the harbourside, or from Fleet Walk, upstairs opposite TK Maxx.

Visit all four locations and answer the question found at each site for a chance to win £50 of Love to Shop vouchers!

All activities are free but donations are welcome to help towards next years events.
