Interpretations 3

Interpretations 3

Maggie Smith, Sam Gingell and Sarah Harcus present their fourth group exhibition at Harbour House, making personal interpretations of the local landscape in painting, printmaking, pastels and mixed media. The artists enjoy working on individual projects, before coming together to explore a local place of interest and to make personal repsonses.
Sam Gingell creates semi-abstract paintings inspired by the Devon landscape. She works primarily in acrylics, sometimes with the addition of texture medium and oils, often with rags and palette knives and seldom with brushes.
Sam has painted and exhibited with the Foxhole Painters at Dartington and at Birdwood House in Totnes.
Maggie Smith uses printmaking, painting and mixed media techniques to respond to landscape, seascape and the natural world. Her works range from large mixed media seascapes to tiny, intricate drypoints recording the hens in her vegetable garden.
Maggie has recently been involved in a community project to decorate tiles for the public showers in Salcombe, and her designs can also be found on the labels for Owens Coffee Company products.
Maggie holds regular Open Studio events in nearby Goveton, and her work can be seen at a rnumber of galleries in Devon and Dorset.
Sarah Harcus works mainly in pastels, responding directly to the timeless rhythms of the surrounding countryside and coastline.
"Trees are a particular magnet for me, especially those which are bent by the prevailing winds."
Blackdown Rings offers endless possibilities for studies of trees in the landscape.
Sarah has exhibited at The Mall Gallery in London and across Europe, before settling in the South Hams.
