Vibrant Images, Vibrant Artists

Vibrant Images, Vibrant Artists

Cherry Lyons, Wendy Chudley and Jenni Pentecost enjoy a shared passion for nature's seasonal tapestry of colour and, armed with sketchbooks, have set out on a series of exploratory expeditions throughout the South West, from season to season, "to absorb the atmosphere and encompass the inspirational nature of each place we visit, capturing the very essence of the rich diversity of our coast and landscape."
Finished works will be exhibited alongside sketchbooks at Harbour House.
Working from sketches and photographs gathered on walks around the West Country and inspired by changes in the light and the atmosphere, Wendy Chudley enjoys using layers to build up her own distinctive style in watercolour, pastels, water-based oils and acrylics. For the 2014 exhibition, Wendy has been focusing on dramatic skies over Dartmoor and the Devon coast, working predominantly in pastel to capture scenes from dawn to dusk. Her atmospheric seascapes and the movement of crashing waves are captured in watercolour and oils.

Cherry Lyons is an experimental mixed media artist who favours the dynamic but unpredictable and spontaneous nature of watercolour to capture fleeting atmospheric moments. Pastels, oils, acrylics and printmaking are significant media choices as she explores colour and texture in moorland and coast. For this exhibition, Cherry focuses on the narrative of her artistic journey throughout a painting year and aims to show her creative process from plein-air sketches on location to conceptual planning, media choice and colour combinations that precede the creation of the final works.
Jenni Pentecost explores technique and texture in paintings characterised by a strong sense of composition and tonal contrast. She enjoys seasonal changes in colour, light and mood, while journeys from Dartmoor to the Lizard inspire coastal, woodland and moorland scenes.. For this exhibition, Jenni's work focuses particularly on the decorative patterns, textures and colours of coastal rock strata, exciting combinations of form, colour and pattern inextricably linked to her Celtic heritage.
