The Oxford Waites: The Frolics of Oxford

The five strong Oxford Waits present The Frolics of Oxford , a vibrant portrait of 17th-century Oxford, encompassing eccentric dons, rascally scholars and the mayhem of Civil War, including works drawn from John Playford, Thomas Ravenscroft and William Lawes. The Oxford Waits are named after a band of city musicians who flourished in Oxford during the 17th century. Their concerts are enlivened by street ballads, dance tunes, airs and rounds played on a wide array of period instruments, as well as readings from diarists and poets.
