matt jago journeyman - Fine Artist, illustrator, writer

Hi, my name is Matt Jago. I'm a painter, writer, illustrator, journeyman living in Torbay. I have joined CreativeTorbay as a means of meeting likeminded artists and to showcase my passion. It is also an excellent way of keeping up to date with the areas art/culture scene. So here's a little bit about me...
After completing my Fine Art degree I held numerous exhibitions before taking to the road. Continued geographicals provide evocative snapshots to various moments in my life. These are captured through a variety of media, oil, acrylic, emulsion, compressed charcoal, pen+ink, written word, photography and memory.
My work captures the 'being' of a place. Somewhere where time has been spent and memories formed. The pieces seem simplified, reduced to their bare bones, so that colour, marks and often words overtake the detail, to form an emotive reminder of an instance.
I returned to Torbay a number of years ago to persue my career in conservation. Being outdoors every day provides continual inspiration for my painting and writing/ramblings. Much of my writing is in monologue, chains of thought. Speedy ramblings and observations which glue the memory and the place to the paper.
All works are for sale, including a selection of limited edition prints. Please contact me if you have any questions.
