The Art of Propaganda Original Political Posters
Millions of people throughout the former Soviet Union and Communist China were inspired, influenced and controlled by state propaganda machines. Many thousands of political posters were produced and distributed to the far corners of these vast countries, but few remain. Their fragile nature, the speed of reform and changes in leadership, mean few have survived the tumultuous social and political context of the twentieth century.
At The Art of Propaganda we believe that these highly collectible and graphically striking social records represent an art form to be protected and cherished. These posters each symbolise a transient little piece of history from an era now consigned to the past.
Posters such as these were intended to be temporary and were produced quickly and cheaply often on low quality paper. For this reason posters often show signs of age, such as creases, tears and stains.
All of our posters are framed using conservation techniques so as to ensure that they retain their condition over time. They have all been ‘floated’ behind glass using acid-free materials so as to prevent any further damage to the fragile paper.
The majority of our posters originate from the former USSR and China, but we also hold a limited range of British, Commonwealth and other posters from around the world. Only a small selection are pictured here. Please contact us with any queries or specific requests - you never know!
Prices tend to range between £200 and £1500, dependent upon origin, age, rarity, condition and simple aesthetics.
