Students working in Yarner Wood outdoor craft projectWe are a large craft centre based at Riverside Mill in Bovey Tracey. We run an educational charity 'Big hand Little Hand' that brings craft to schools and the community and creates opportunities for everyone to learn through making. As a Guild - we are a membership organisation supporting professional craftspeople from South West England.
2013 brings artists of international repute to the Guild - such as Jack Cunningham (UK) and Bridie Lander (Aus) showing contemporary jewellery in 'Transplantation' (Mar-April). We are showcasing emerging design talent in 'Get Fresh' (Jan-Feb) and exhibiting the best South West makers in our members' summer exhibition 'Make a Mark' (Jun-Sept). Helen Snell and Anita Reynolds present solo work (papercut and print) and we have organised some great partnership exhibitions - with Thelma Hulbert gallery ('Intolace', Sept-Nov) and at High Cross House (Jun-Sept).
Paper-cutting, jewellery, porcelain, lacework and basket-making are some of the practical workshops we're running in 2013 where you can learn new craft techniques. Visitors to our gallery will also find reference notes, resource material and crafty activities inspiring you to find out more and to do it yourself!
Our craft shop shows a constantly changing display of work by our 250 Members so there are always new designs to see. You can also indulge in a meal or homemade cake at The Terrace café which prides itself on using local ingredients and suppliers. Or you can visit our shop at Cockington Court Country Park and Craft Centre (nr Torquay) and enjoy a great day out in its beautiful parkland setting. In all we hope to provide you with a free, fun and creative visit which is family friendly too!
