“A violinist in a million…staggering virtuosity and unparalleled musicianship.” The Glasgow Herald on Madeleine Mitchell

A wonderfully warm programme of some of the most popular works written for string orchestra. The evening begins with Mozart’s sunny and effervescent Divertimento K.136. This is followed by the moving Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber – one of the most profound works in the classical music canon – then by the cool, French beauty of Les Illuminations, Britten’s settings of Rimbaud, performed by Sarah Gabriel. The hot tango of Piazzolla (soloist Madeleine Mitchell) and Elgar’s exhilarating Introduction and Allegro complete this programme, led by the celebrated conductor Sian Edwards with her conducting students.

Mozart: Divertimento K.136
Barber: Adagio for Strings
Britten: Les Illuminations Op.18
Piazzolla: movements from Four Seasons of Buenos Aires
Elgar: Introduction and Allegro for Strings Op.47

Part of the Dartington International Summer School concert and event programme.
