MET Opera Live: Tristan & Isolde [12A]

5pm, Running time: 4hrs 50m approx.
£20.00

COMPOSER: Richard Wagner
CONDUCTOR: Sir Simon Rattle

Sung in German with MET Titles in English

The season begins with a new production of Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, conducted by Sir Simon Rattle for his first Live In HD performance.

Captured in Ireland, Isolde and her handmaid Brangäne are escorted to Cornwall aboard Tristan’s warship, where Isolde will be wed to King Marke. But Isolde is in love with Tristan…

Nina Stemme stars as Isolde, a touchstone role she has sung with major opera companies around the world. Her Tristan is Australian heldentenor Stuart Skelton, who sang Siegmund in the Met’s Ring cycle in 2013. The cast also includes Ekaterina Gubanova, Evgeny Nikitin and René Pape.

The staging, by Mariusz Treliński (who directed the 2015 Met double bill of Iolanta and Bluebeard’s Castle), is a co-production with the Festival Hall Baden-Baden, Teatr Wielki (Polish National Opera) and China’s National Centre For The Performing Arts.
