Socially engaged Artist working with people, puppets and places.

Amy Hirst has over ten years experience delivering imaginative projects and events in schools, museums, galleries and outdoor public spaces.
She loves transforming unloved or under-used spaces into places of creativity; animating unsuspecting streets with puppets and celebrating people's stories.

Key Projects/commissions:

Trailblazers Puppet exhibition, Kirklees Council commission for Black History Month 2014

Farmlands and Crops, Junction arts/ Bolsover District Council - permanent artwork installed at Pleasley Vale Outdoor activity centre. 2013

Yorkshire Sculpture Park Ignite Residency - Puppetry and Storytelling 2012-13

Amy collaborates with a wide range of people in the creation of her work and developing new creative initiatives. Current collaborations include:

The Making Space:
Collaborating with Rachael Walker and Andrew Wilson offering events and spaces for people to make together and share skills, with the aim to establish a regular space in Huddersfield for collaborative practice and co-working.

Janet Marks:
Amy is working with artist, fashion designer and photographer Janet Marks, pooling their resources and skills to create projects celebrating and sharing stories of Black culture and heritage in schools, working closely with the Black History Month in Kirklees steering group.

A not-for -profit group formed of studio holders at West Yorkshire Print Workshop to collaborate on exhibitions and events and strengthen peer-to peer support. Currently developing a group show to be held in March 2016.
