Lucky enough to live in the South Hams with its varied coastal and country scenery since 1973, I have come to appreciate more fully the beauty of this area through painting. Having spent my working life as an architect, with a pencil in my hand, I build my studio paintings from initial drawings and watercolours carried out in the landscape. An interest in geology helps to inform the structure and texture of my work.

I use acrylic and oils, applied mostly with knives and fingers, and I find the use of charcoal and watercolour when working outside a particularly exciting medium, and often end up with finished paintings, which I hope convey the immediacy of what is before me.

I exhibit at most of the Open exhibitions at Harbour House, Kingsbridge, and with two other artists – Christine Linfield and Margaret Deans - with whom I have painted at home and abroad for over ten years. Our September exhibition ‘Between Weathers’ will show our differing interpretations of landscapes from the West Country to the Shetlands.

I also run a small weekly art group in Kingston, where I try to pass on the intense pleasure I gain from painting.
