 RAIN OR SHINE: indoor and outdoor spaces and wet-weather plan

The first artatthehouse event in 2018 was the brain-child of local ceramics artist, Nigel Hoyle, whose aim was to bring together a collective of artists, designers and makers to show their work in the lovely surroundings of Cliffe House, a beautiful Victorian mansion in 10 acres of woodlands and gardens.

For the second year, atatthehouse will bring together artists, designers, craftspeople and musicians, not only to display and demonstrate their work, but also with the aim of creating a relaxed and informal atmosphere where visitors can chat with them to learn about the materials, tools and techniques that they use.

And for anyone who’d like to have a go for themselves, there’s a programme of workshops throughout both days offering the chance to try out a totally new skill – from pot throwing to printing on clay, contemporary textile art and raku firing.

For younger visitors, there will be children’s craft workshops and an Art Trail through the woods. Curious visitors will be intrigued by sound installations, whilst a walk in the woods will reveal other ‘artistic installations and interventions’ …

Nigel Hoyle explains: “Our first artatthehouse weekend in 2018 was a great success and we’re hoping that even more people will join us over 1st and 2nd June this year to enjoy and experience the work of an amazingly talented and diverse group of local artists, designers, makers and musicians, to share and celebrate their creativity.

Cliffe House not only provides a backdrop for the art, crafts and music, the beautiful buildings and landscapes are also integral to how they will be experienced and discovered. With over 20 artists, plus lots of hands-on activities, creative, unexpected installations and fantastic food and drink, we’re really looking forward to the second year of artatthehouse – it’s something new and different that will also be great fun.”
