Masterpieces of Furniture in Yorkshire’s Country Houses.

Masterpieces of Furniture in Yorkshire’s Country Houses. Lecture delivered by Janusz Karcezewski-Slowikowski.

“Nowhere else has arguably as much to offer in the way of great country houses as does Yorkshire” – and many of them contain masterpieces of furniture provided by Chippendale and other eminent cabinet makers of the 18th century. Harwood, Nostell and Newby are especially famous for their Robert Adam interiors and Chippendale’s accompanying Neo-Classical furniture whilst Burton Constable showcases the work of his eldest son who took over where he left off at his retirement. In fact, there are so many real masterpieces within Yorkshire’s country houses that it will be possible to discuss but a small proportion of them in a one hour lecture!
