Bagshaw Museum

Founded by Walter Bagshaw at the beginning of the 20th Century, the museum was created to enable visitors to ‘See the world in a day’ and experience civilisations and cultures from around the world via its exciting expansive collection. Over a hundred years later, this award winning museum still fulfils that vision.

Permanent inspirational displays include 'The Kingdom of Osiris', an atmospheric Egyptology gallery, The Tribal Cultures of Africa and the 'Spirit of South Asia' gallery in addition to two local history galleries.

Via the KS2 Learning Opportunities programme, the museum is one the few places in the north of England to provide children with the chance to handle and investigate real objects from ancient Egypt.

Special public events and family craft activities are held throughout the year.

A versatile purpose built classroom is also available for weekend hire and is suitable for meetings and craft activities.
