Working from her South Devon-based studio Becky creates mixed media works, collages, paintings and drawings. She is also a published poet. Within these works are text and illustrations from old bibles and art books; more intriguing is the inclusion of fragments from art school portfolios abandoned in her house. These date from the 1940′s through to the 21st century and provide a unique form of collaboration with past and present artists including her father, her children and fellow art school students from the 1970′s.

Becky draws inspiration from a childhood immersed in art and the imagination; her father was writer and artist Peter Draper who in turn was close friends with Hubert (Nibs) Dalwood. Peter owned Milton Head Pottery Brixham from 1950-59. He was also a founder member of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen. Alongside this creative home life are influences from a lifelong love of Dadaism, Surrealism, Kurt Schwitters and the effect of being a Protestant girl from an unconventional background in a convent school.

Becky is currently working on three ongoing projects. Art of the School references the religious prints hanging her convent school walls along with the effect of religious violence, piety and guilt on adolescence. Medals for the Imagination commemorate the subconscious of the artist. Family Tree is a series of paintings and drawings that reference Becky’s family tree through the places and objects they loved.
