A Day to Remember at Broadway Theatre

A Day to Remember at Broadway Theatre

Together Toby Thompson and City Chorus create a Remembrance event that takes the listener beyond the formalities of the Cenotaph and into realities of the hearths, hearts and heads of all those affected by these terrible events.
In just two days during May 1915 The Battle of Aubers Ridge cost 11,000 British casualties for no material strategic gain.
In memory of all of the fallen of WW1 and other wars and conflicts, gifted poet Toby Thompson (RSC, National Portrait Gallery) takes us through the naive optimism of the young conscripts, the fears of their proud mothers and sweethearts to the brutal and deadly reality of the trenches.
Toby’s words are skilfully interwoven with beautifully, haunting music from celebrated composer Sir Karl Jenkin’s ‘The Armed Man’ performed by Letchworth City Chorus (Great British Prom Competition Winners 2017)
Join us to hear this powerful and moving performance by Toby together with City Chorus who last sang ‘The Armed Man’ in the battlefields of Normandy in 2014 to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day landings.
At this 100th year since the end of the Great War, Broadway Theatre presents a unique opportunity to remember and reflect on the sacrifice and futility of war, though the artistry of the performers and the power of the pictures painted in words and music.
