POETRY ISLAND FTR – STEVE POTTINGER

POETRY ISLAND FTR – STEVE POTTINGER

Host Ian Beech will be delighted to introduce June’s headliner, a rising star on the national poetry scene, Steve Pottinger, supported by a full cast of talented performance poets from across the South West.

Steve Pottinger has gigged the length and breadth of the UK performing poetry in pubs and clubs and festivals; for Apples & Snakes, and Hammer & Tongue. Cheltenham Poetry Festival called him ‘a rising star’, and his latest book of poems ‘more bees bigger bonnets’ has been given glowing reviews by such notables of the poetry world as Tony ‘Longfella’ Walsh, Joelle Taylor, and Attila the Stockbroker, among others.

Last May, his letter to Caffè Nero – taking them to task about their tax avoidance – went viral. He’s also also co-authored the autobiographies of two punk musicians, and is currently working on his first novel.

His work has been published in several compilations, the Morning Star, and on the Poetry 24 website. He hopes his poetry will make you laugh, and think, and go home wanting to change the world. He’s confident it’s unlikely to be championed by the Daily Mail. Or Caffè Nero.

Reviews of ‘more bees bigger bonnets’:

‘…a tower block of a book, each flat containing beautifully drawn characters from 21st century Britain… Steve’s best work yet.’
Joelle Taylor

‘In more bees bigger bonnets Steve Pottinger stings all the right targets, drips honey in all the right places and leaves the reader buzzin’.’
Tony ‘Longfella’ Walsh

‘Hard-hitting, human and humorous. Good stuff.’
Attila the Stockbroker

‘…the poems are shot through with real people’s lives, with tragedy and despair and with joy and optimism. In these poems, people often smile and laugh in the face of a world going wrong. Here is the news: but real.’
Boff Whalley, author & playwright

‘With more bees bigger bonnets, Pottinger fires up the guns of rage, but also moulds the blocks of outrageous hope for the future.’
Chris Nickson, author
