Chichester Spiegeltent

A brand new venue for Chichester, featuring an adventurous mix of events – from cabaret and music to circus and comedy – the Chichester Spiegeltent promises something completely fresh and contemporary this autumn.

Situated on the edge of Oaklands Park, right by the Festival Theatre, the Spiegeltent opens with Roy Williams’s play Sing Yer Heart Out for the Lads and finishes with the outrageous glamour of A Night at the Musicals, taking in comedians like Angela Barnes and music from Camille O’Sullivan along the way. During the day, bring the kids for beatboxing adventures, comedy and crafts. Relax with friends at late-night events or over a drink in the magical Spiegel Garden.

Set in a South London pub in 2000 as England play Germany in the World Cup qualifier, Roy Williams’s funny and ferocious Sing Yer Heart Out for the Lads takes aim at what it means to be black, white and English in Britain today. Running from 5 October – 2 November, and scoring high on foul language, it’s not for the faint hearted!

At the other end of the scale, there’s plenty of entertainment for children from toddlers to teenagers and their families. Bromance mixes the show-stopping acrobatics of circus with the emotional punch of theatre to create an exhilarating tour-de-force of physical heroics, where handshakes become handstands and backslaps become backflips. In Nautilus, award-winning clown Trygve Wakenshaw shape-shifts his long-limbed body into a multitude of characters, scenarios and jokes in an energetic and hilarious show that’s a salute to the human imagination.

For younger children there’s a fresh and fun reworking of the classic tale 3 Excellent Little Pigs and the swashbuckling Pirate Adventure, as well as half term activities ranging from Indian Dance and African Drumming to Butterfly and Lions Puppetry.
