Kirklees Pride 2022

Kirklees Pride 2022

Pride is a celebration of people coming together in love and friendship, to show how far LGBTQ+ rights have come and how in some places there is still work to be done. It's about being proud of who you are, no matter who you love.

Kirklees will be hosting its very first Kirklees Pride celebration on 9 July 2022! It is set to be a day of fun activities, celebration and live entertainment.

What’s on Saturday 9 July

As well as rainbow flags, face-painting, and live music, there will also be a poetry and art workshop at the Lawrence Batley Theatre (LBT). As well as, an evening performance of Pride in Kirklees showcasing live music and an uplifting session from Stephanie Hirst.

Head to the Lawrence Batley Theatre at 12:30pm. Kirklees Pride 2022 will be opened with speeches from the event organisers and elected members.

From 12:30, King Street in Huddersfield Town Centre will be a hive of activity! There will be stall holders, an interactive police car and fire engine. As well as, all-day live entertainment.

The fun continues into the Courtyard of the Lawrence Batley Theatre (LBT). There will be Children’s face painting, children’s entertainment and stall holders. There will also be live entertainment hour-by-hour from The Rain Queens, Slaithwaite Brass Band and other local artists.

In the Attic Theatre of the LBT there will be art workshops, and free HIV testing from the Brunswick Centre.

Head over to the LBT Cellar where you’ll find an LGBTQ+ poetry workshop. You can expect a live poetry reading by James Nash, and LGBTQ+ Storytime.

From 5:30pm enjoy an evening of Pride in Kirklees with special guest star Stephanie hirst in Believe Achieve. Book your free tickets for this event at the LBT’s box office as limited spaces will be available on the day.

You will also get the first sneak peak at Kirklees Museum and Galleries’ new exhibition on The Day the World Came to Huddersfield. The exhibition looks back to 1981 when London Pride came all the way up to Huddersfield to stand with the LBTQ+ community at the time.

Kirklees Pride 2022 will finish in a bang with the official after-part being held at Rain Bar in Huddersfield from 8:30pm.
