If you can’t make that session, Culture Programmes will be hosting a Leeds-specific webinar with Lady Ashley Shaw Scott Adjaye: Tuesday 25 Jan 10am. Hannah Farley will be in conversation with Ashley about the national project, the offer for Leeds artists, how to make a submission and deeper background and impetus for the work. From August-October 2022, Leeds will join other UK cities to host trails of ten large Globe sculptures, created by artists to bring to life the reality and impact of the Transatlantic Slave Trade. The conversations in Leeds will showcase our diverse communities, enable intercultural conversations and celebrate creativity as a tool for social change in our communities.

The World Reimagined Globes will be created by both internationally renowned and local visual artists who work in the mediums of paint, textiles, photography, drawing, mosaic, sculpture and collage. It is expected that the project will offer significant profile-raising opportunities for the successful artist(s).

The Leeds City Council Culture Programmes team is keen for this opportunity to reach a range of artists at different stages in their career. The World Reimagined Open Call Jury will select and commission artists nationally to support the design and creation of additional Globes. Successful artists will receive a commission fee, and have access to professional masterclasses delivered by the project’s ‘Icons’. The Globes will also form part of a wider creative schools & community programme with further opportunities to engage. Artists are invited to submit a response to one of the nine project themes that could be applied to a Globe.

The call out is free to enter and additional support can be offered to artists with access needs. The World Reimagined team will also offer 1:1 advice alongside other support. A commission of £1,500 is available for successful artists, plus £150 for materials. Deadline for submissions 5pm 31 January 2022.
