BRIXHAM PIRATE FESTIVAL COMMITTEE ANNOUNCEMENT

BRIXHAM PIRATE FESTIVAL COMMITTEE ANNOUNCEMENT

Before the 2015 Brixham pirate festival took place the present committee announced it
would stand down following the event. We felt that the festival has now reached a point
where our skills would not suffice to take festival where it deserves to go. We have in
the last three years put on a popular and successful event enjoyed by people from all
over the country as well as from Torbay.
Before the festival took place we formed a company Brixham Pirate Festival Limited,
with three committee members as directors. There were several reasons for this; firstly
the festival costs over £25,000 to stage, with this amount of money handled we have to
legally either form a company, charity or both. Secondly this puts the festival on a more
professional basis, and limits the committees liability, and thirdly it is a not for profit
company so all monies will go towards the festival.
We think it is important that the festival continues to benefit the local community and
businesses by bringing visitors to Brixham and hopefully many of them returning all
through the year.
We will also be forming a charity to run alongside the company as this has benefits for
the festival and further reinforces our community based aims.
We now need to form a new committee to organise the 2016 festival, we are looking for
a new chairman and six to ten committee members each taking a managing role in the
organising of the festival. The present committee will assist the new committee but will
not take an active role. The new committee will need to form in about a month’s time as
organising the festival usually starts in June/July.
