Collections Documentation Intern, The Museum of Army Flying

This role is part of the Heritage Lottery Fund supported ‘British Army Flying: Discovering Stories of Courage, Comradeship and Innovation’ project. The Intern will provide assistance to the Curator and Archivist during the Development Phase of the project. For more details, please see www.armyflying.com

Main Duties

Accessioning new acquisitions.

Retrospective cataloguing.

Creating records in MODES.

Creating and managing location records.

Administering loans.

Answering queries about material held in the collection.

Using collections records to inform the reinterpretation of the Museum.

Helping to transfer collections to improved facilities and contributing towards planning a new archives store.

Assisting with the interpretation of the collection.

Participating in Museum activities and events as required.

Providing other support to the Curator and Archivist as required.

Skills and Knowledge

Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work using initiative and without supervision.

Computer literate, ideally with experience of working with a heritage collections database.

An enthusiasm for tasks which require relentless attention to detail.

Excellent organisational skills.

Ability to prioritise.

A good team worker.

Willingness and aptitude to work with volunteers.

A commitment to upholding Museum policies.

Enthusiasm for aviation / military collections would be an advantage.

Qualifications and Experience

Educated to Degree level in an appropriate subject or the equivalent experience.

A working knowledge of museum database and manual documentation systems would be highly advantageous.
