Research Fellow/Project Co-ordinator, Exeter University in collaboration with Libraries Unlimited

We are looking for a Research Fellow/Project Co-ordinator to participate in high profile national research looking at the value and impact of public libraries as part of an Arts Council England funded research initiative.

The project brings together academics from the Business School, Senior Managers from Libraries Unlimited and other partners including the Real Ideas Organisation (RIO) and Open Data Devon. It seeks to create learning and impact by addressing the following questions:

What social value do libraries create, and how do they do so?

How can libraries connect social value to financial value in ways that amplify the essence of what makes them ‘special’ in the eyes of the public?

How can library leaders best respond to this challenge of needing to work in more ‘socially enterprising’ ways?

The post-holder will initiate lead and co-ordinate research and impact activities in support of these goals, in dialogue with the lead project partners, Libraries Unlimited. Libraries Unlimited is a new staff and community owned mutual providing library services across Devon, committed to developing socially enterprising ways of working that have impact for the sector and for local communities. Whilst the research is specific to Libraries Unlimited’s new context as a social enterprise, this project has significance for library services nationally and internationally.

The successful candidate should have experience in mixed methods research, project management and public engagement. The role also requires experience of working with non-academic stakeholders and excellent written and verbal communication skills. The candidate will have a proven ability to work independently and follow projects through from initiation to completion.

This is a fixed term contract for 18 months.
