Singing Streets in Horsham this May

Singing Streets is a unique community project being piloted at The Needles estate, Horsham, by the team behind a celebrated event called Whispering Woods which was part of the London 2012 Games Cultural Olympiad. Singing Streets is the urban version.

Singing Streets is primarily a music project with the voice being the principle instrument and it is very much hoped that many residents from The Needles estate will get involved - it’s open to all, no previous experience of singing or playing music is necessary and there are many other roles required to make the event a success, including sharing reminiscences and baking!

There’ll be the opportunity to join: The Needles choir, a children’s choir, or even a band - working with digital technology. There will be weekly choir rehearsals or people may wish to help prepare a banquet, bake cakes or support the team behind the scenes. Residents may also get involved by sharing memories of living on the estate. They may have old photographs that can be used as part of a projection to accompany especially commissioned new music.

The project will culminate at sunset on Saturday 10 May 2014 with a fabulous night-time event on The Needles green, in and around a giant marquee with live performances, a ‘singing through the decades’ party and a banquet!
