Potters Open Day 2024

Potters Open Day 2024

A day of talks and demonstrations by eminent potters, live at Trestle Arts Base, St Albans and on Zoom.
Clare Twomey is an artist and a research fellow at the University of Westminster who works with clay in large-scale installations, sculpture and site-specific works. She has exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum, Tate, Crafts Council, Museum of Modern Art Kyoto Japan, the Eden Project and the Royal Academy of Arts. Her work is infused with her concerns for materials, craft practice and historic and social context.

Imogen Taylor-Noble makes objects inspired by those from the ancient Japanese kilns of Bizen and Shiguraki, and Korean Buncheong. They are filtered through my personal response to the processes of building with clay, combined with a modern aesthetic. She takes inspiration from the environment and hand builds her work leaving the spontaneous mark making that comes from the process of working quickly, to capture the softness and fluidity of movement and intuitive decision making that comes from making pots on the wheel.

Dylan Bowen makes slip decorated earthernware, sculptural and sometimes functional, pushing the boundaries of construction and decoration in a quest for spontaneity and fluidity.
