Dacorum Young Artists Dacorum Young Artists 2020

2020 Competition Announced
The Dacorum Young Artists Competition has now become an established event in the calendar of many schools in the Dacorum Borough, including yours. We would like to thank you and your pupils for their contribution to the outstanding work which the event has show- cased over the last 5 years. The feedback received from teachers, parents, children and VIP guests has confirmed again and again the boost in confidence and sense of pride this event can bring to its nine and ten-year old participants.
This year’s exhibition took place on 4th May at Astley Cooper School, Hemel Hempstead and judges and visitors were once again astounded by the creativity, imagination and ability displayed by the young artists.
Nearly 400 drawings and paintings were exhibited for visitors and Guests of Honour, the Worshipful Mayor of Dacorum, Councillor Rosie Sutton and the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, Lady Shelagh Nichols, to admire. A ‘Best in School’ award was made to an entrant from each participating school and the artists awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd places overall received vouchers of £60, £40 and £20 respectively. Every child was awarded a certificate to recognise their efforts.
The subject matter chosen by schools was hugely varied as the Competition is designed to allow teachers to select their own themes to support the overall curriculum or submit class work already completed. Entries took inspiration from observation of nature including leaves and trees, Tudor costumes, Biblical stories, climate change, the Moon landing and pets and hobbies. The diversity of the subject matter was a perfect illustration of the important role art plays in supporting the academic curriculum in allowing children to express their thoughts and imagination.
Plans are now well in hand for the 2020 event which will take place on 9th May next year and you will receive information on how to enter early in the Autumn term. If your school was unable to enter this year then we hope to welcome you back for the 2020 competition and exhibition. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy these images from this year’s event.
