TORBAY CULTURE HOSTS volunteer roles to support culture events

Torbay Culture Hosts are enthusiasts and advocates of culture in the Bay who volunteer to champion culture with their communities. September 2017 will mark a season of culture for Torbay when we gear up to a new peak of arts events that will help to put Torbay on the cultural map.
THE TALE is an exciting new event for explorers of all ages, guiding visitors on a journey of discovery from the streets of Torquay, through hidden coves and historic harbours, to the quarry of Berry Head. New artworks and performances will be revealed during three weekends in September.
The INTERNATIONAL AGATHA CHRISTIE FESTIVAL, running from 13-17 September, has expanded into a major platform for new works with guest writers, performers, artists, song, stories and dance celebrating the extraordinary life and legacies of Dame Agatha Christie Mallowan.

To enable these events to run, a new pool of volunteer Culture Hosts is being recruited by Torbay Culture Board and its partners across the Bay. As a Host, you could help out in one of many roles, from stewarding and guiding visitors to shifting props and telling stories. And we want everyone to get involved - any age, any background and any ability. We will work with you to make sure you get the most out of volunteering too, adding to skills or just enjoying doing something different. We don’t want our volunteers to be out of pocket, so please don’t let that put you off.

The energy and enthusiasm that volunteer Hosts can share with visitors was very evident at the Global Geopark Conference in September 2016, when over 80 volunteers signed up to help and together made a wonderful impression on delegates from all over the world. It is hoped that this year’s events will be the next step towards establishing a friendly army of hosts that can continue to help to make Torbay a truly ‘great place’. The venues across the Bay are Torquay Museum, Torre Abbey, Paignton Picture House, Shoalstone Pool and Berry Head.

So if you have a few hours to spare and would like to get involved with something different, new and exciting then please follow the link and fill in your details on our form. Even a few hours will help to make a big difference for the Bay.

Or call in to one of our drop in sessions, meet the team and find out what it's all about.
