Art @ Delamore 09

Artists both established and new are gearing up for the seventh annual charity exhibition Art @ Delamore 09. Featuring more than 100 leading painters and sculptors from the Southwest and across the UK, this show promises to have something for everyone. It will be held every day in May from 10.30am – 4.30pm on the Delamore estate in Cornwood. A landmark of traditional Dartmoor architecture, the estate was commissioned by Admiral Parker (one of Nelson’s captains at Trafalgar) as a wedding gift in 1859.

“We pride ourselves on bringing a fresh, thought provoking and diverse collection of art to the public every year” commented Gavin Dollard, one of the exhibition’s Directors. And if the huge success of the 2008 exhibition is anything to go by, this year will be a must see.

Alongside one another will be works from renowned sculptor Hamish Mackie, stunning paintings by Ray Balkwill, Michael Morgan RI, Yvonne Coomber, and Picasso’s muse Lydia Corbett, plus a life-sized elephant by local sculptor Suzie Marsh and Daren Greenhow's "Pike on a Trike" created from reclaimed bicycle parts.

Visitors can also explore the estate’s spectacular gardens (open only in May each year) and the main hall whilst viewing the various works on show. The Millennium Avenue at the back of the house displays the largest Cromlech in the world, where visitors can walk the 200 meters (one meter for each decade) of the lime avenue up to the Tomb.

This year promises to be the best exhibition yet, with twice as much to see. A sculpture trail from the main house, marked by festival flags, will lead to the new Delamore Gallery, where jewellery, ceramics, textiles, photography and more paintings and sculpture will be on display.

So far Delamore Arts has raised over £50,000 for charities in the South West, including The Chestnut Appeal, The Devon Air Ambulance, The Dartmoor Trust, and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. This year, the entry fee of £3.50 (under 16s are free) will go to Delamore’s sponsored charity Dame Hannah Rogers Trust.

Almost all of the work on show at Art @ Delamore will soon be accessible on the Delamore Arts website and news updates can be found on www.delamore-art.co.uk. For more information telephone 01752 837719 or email admin@delamore.com. Delamore Arts, Delamore, Cornwood, PL21 9QT
