Heritage Open Days & WOVEN - Weaving Workshop

Heritage Open Days & WOVEN - Weaving Workshop

Learn home tabletop weaving techniques and make your own unique piece of woven cloth!

Join WOVEN in Kirklees Making It project textile artists, Elnaz Yazdani and Iqra Rafiq, to learn home tabletop weaving techniques and make your own unique piece of woven cloth or woven hanging. All materials will be provided.

The Heritage Open Days are a chance to celebrate, with WOVEN in Kirklees, the unique place that Kirklees has within the world of textiles. Throughout history, the district has been at the forefront of textiles innovation and production. At the centre of production was weaving, reflected in the many mills within the area.

During this 2-hour workshop with textile artists Elnaz Yazdani and Iqra Rafiq you will be guided through the technique of hand Weaving and taught how to explore and use a range of alternative materials, threads, fabrics and yarns for your weaving sample.

You will learn about the history of weaving in Dewsbury and explore a range of weaving techniques using your table loom, shuttle and comb.

All materials for the workshop are provided and the session is completely FREE - but booking is essential -- please follow the link to the Eventbrite page.

Suitable for beginners aged +16.

Weaving is also a great way to relax, unwind and meet new members of your community. Come along and learn a new skill.
