Artist Explores Geopark's Treasures

Contemporary Artist Anna Keleher has begun to explore the English Riviera Geopark through an exciting new project.

Supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, her project entitled 'RAT + Talking With Things' focuses on the relationship between people and the natural world.

Through linking art and science in novel ways Anna aims to encourage audiences to engage with nature and all its fascinating features.

Over the next few months, Anna, who lives in Compton, will be collaborating with both Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust and the English Riviera Geopark Organisation to develop an understanding of the Geopark and the landscapes within its boundaries.

Anna has recently been busy observing and recording environments, activities and events within the Geopark including rocks and soils workshops for primary schools at the Seashore Centre in Goodrington and the festive Tree Dressing Day at Occombe Farm for members of the public.

Geopark education and community officer, Emily Beale, said: "It's great having Anna around to assist with and observe our activities. Her direct involvement with the Geopark is enabling us to explore its potential from a different, more creative, perspective."

This year Anna will be creating a variety of thought-provoking pieces to shake up people's habitual perspectives of the world to reveal its intelligence, intention and humour.

She is documenting the journey through the exotic landscapes of her project in an internet blog which she keeps regularly updated with stories, anecdotes and images from her time in the Geopark.

Anna said: "I am coming to think of our Geopark as a living thing. I'm curious to discover its habits, emotions and desires and to share my insights with others."
