Free Your Inner Writer

Free Your Inner Writer Creative writing workshops

Hello! I am a writer and teacher based in Mirfield, West Yorkshire. I have always loved words, first as a reader and then as a writer. My childhood was spent scribbling away in my bedroom and the urge to create using words has never left me. I have a degree in English and Communication Arts and I studied Creative Writing at Kirklees College.

My deep love of history is a constant source of inspiration and much of my writing is inspired by people and places from the past. My writing takes many forms, including journaling, short stories, poems, playscripts and articles. I contribute to the ‘Yorkshire Writers’ Lunch’ blog and I am a co-author of ‘Dining on Words’, an anthology of our writing. I have also been published in the Times Educational Supplement.

I love to teach and I have a passion for helping emerging and returning writers to unlock their creative potential. My ‘Free Your Inner Writer’ workshops encourage people to examine what might be holding them back and through a series of guided writing exercises, help them to find their voice as a writer.

I am currently delivering World War One creative writing workshops in local schools, as part of a Heritage Lottery Fund project run by the Dewsbury Sacrifices group. I share artefacts from the Great War and my personal collection of original WW1 postcards, to prompt discussion. The children then take on the role of a soldier or nurse from WW1 and write their own postcards home from the trenches.
