Harbertonford Open Studios 2017

“So much creativity in one small Devon village!”
The friendly village of Harbertonford invites you to a fascinating arts’ trail in and out of studios, homes, gardens and the village pub. Unlike other arts trails, all the venues are close to each other in the same village, making it easy to see them all on the same visit.

There will be refreshments to revive you en route along the trail at each venue. The village pub, The Maltster’s Arms on our main road will have pizza and curry and a full bar available throughout the event.

Seven separate venues showing the work of eleven makers in the village of Harbertonford, 3 miles south of Totnes, in South Devon.

The Artists:
Steven and Avril Pratt, painters
Kari Furre, fish leatherworks and sculpture
Aziz Khan, painting
Shaun Horlock, pen & ink
Linda Hill, printmaker
Susan Deakin, painter and printmaker
Richard Lewis, basket maker
Marian Ash, textiles
Ben Altman, photography
Prana Simon, drawing and painting

Harbertonford Open Studios has taken place every two years since 1999 with a number of local participants each year. Everyone lives or works within the village.

Harbertonford may have been famous in the past for floodwaters, but many people in the South Hams associate it with its own popular biennial arts trail.
This lively village is home to a wide selection of creative people. There are, as usual, some new exhibitors to make any return visit to the event worthwhile. The mixture of professional and amateur participants ensures a tremendous range of styles and prices, so that most people will find something to treasure from their visit, even if it is simply a chance to explore secret sheds and walled gardens beside the river Harbourne.
Unlike many other art’s trails, all the venues are within the village itself, so that once here visitors can easily park and take a relaxing stroll between them.
The end of May is a good moment to wander in the artists’ gardens – some of which are delightful, full of historical charm.

Parking: There is free parking at the village hall, the school and around the village.

Reasonably priced, locally grown delicious homemade refreshments prepared by cooks Apple and Emma from The Dig and Dine Café will be on sale throughout the three-day event at St Peter’s Church. The Maltster’s Arms is providing both an artist’s venue and traditional pub grub (pizza & curry) and full bar with a chance to rest tired feet between stops.

Maps showing the venues will be available free from the Harbertonford Village Stores, Harbertonford Filling Station and the Tourist Information Centre in Totnes.

This is a community event wholly organised by those taking part.
