The Art of Synergy

The Art of Synergy

Recent works by Janet Brady, Peter Davies, Sue Coleman, Gudrun Taresch, John Rowe and Nicholas Palmer.

During the period of lockdown in 2020 Janet Brady was drawn to explore early memories and fears, creating 30 works in 30 days. The motif of the drowning figure crystalised her thoughts and grew to a significant body of work, with paintings framed behind distorting glass to echo the inevitable distortion of dreams and memories over time.

Gudrun Taresch, too, responds with creativity to the period of lockdown and her feelings about the “suffocated world full of destruction, greed, information overload and fear”. She describes her art as a journey through media, including charcoal, oil, acrylic, watercolour, textiles and glass, as well as a journey through her thoughts and emotions.

Peter Davies explores the relationship between image and reality, both through the formal qualities of tone and boundary and by creating bas relief images to attract the light and further the illusion.

Sue Coleman explores land and seascape and figurative themes through pencil, watercolour, acrylics and ink. Her current passion is for traditional etching and collagraph printmaking techniques. Oonagh Glancy also works in printmaking, processing ideas from observation, sketchbooks and camera and exploring the interchange between evolving themes and experiences.

John Rowe’s sculpture and bespoke furniture responds to his concerns for ecology. He describes his work as “an eclectic mix of materials and techniques, whatever comes to hand, and recycled whenever possible” and aims to give out a strong message of acting responsibly for the sake of the environment.

Nicholas Palmer responds to elements of the natural world with pen and ink studies, acrylic and mixed media paintings, and sculpture in carved wood and glass.
