Young Curators Programme: Open Call

Young Curators Programme: Open Call

hcmf// Young Curators Programme

hcmf//’s Young Curators Programme is aimed at developing talent and leadership amongst the music programmers, promoters and curators of the future. For this project hcmf// is looking to recruit a team of six, Kirklees-based young people, aged 18 – 30, who have some previous experience of organising performances or other arts/cultural events in their local areas. This group will take part in a specially designed training programme where they will develop their skills as an artistic curator and be supported in creating new live events, some of which will be presented to audiences during hcmf// 2020.

We are looking for people to take part who have a passion for sound or music of any genre or perhaps visual or performance art.

What’s involved

The six selected Young Curators will be invited to attend events at hcmf// 2019 to experience how the festival is run and to gain inspiration for their own organised events. Following the festival, each Young Curator will receive mentoring from the hcmf// team to establish a bespoke training programme based on their individual needs.

Throughout 2020, the Young Curators will continue to organise events in their own area with mentoring and some financial support from hcmf//. Then at hcmf// 2020 all six Young Curators will work together to create a collaborative event which will take place as part of the festival’s programme.

What hcmf// is offering

Skills sessions and workshops delivered by leading professionals. This might include: live sound and production, how to make space in your community for events to happen, marketing advice, artist management, or how to work with booking agents.

Practical support and guidance about marketing, fundraising, budgeting, logistics, and all aspects of event production. Tangible skills gained about effective event management.

Opportunities to have your work featured on hcmf// website and social media channels. The six curators selected will have the opportunity to jointly curate an event at hcmf// 2020.

Networking opportunities with other curators on the programme, professional artists and the hcmf// team.

Financial support available for event programming and bursaries for practicalities such as travel.
