'O cessate di piagarmi; Alessandro Scarlatti

Hello everyone,

I was a little under the weather yesterday so I am posting my Art Song Monday today instead for #singingfrommysofa.

I thought I would explain the difference between an 'Art Song' and an 'Aria' because I go on about them so much!

An Art Song is a composition written for voice and usually piano and it's set to a text or poem which can be part of a song cycle. An Opera is set to a drama set to a libretto and usually with an orchestra.

Today I am posting 'O cessate di piagarmi' by Alessandro Scarlatti - which is cheating a little because it is infact an aria from il Pompeo from a libretto by Nicolò Minato. This piece is widely performed in concert repertoire accompanied by piano.
