Comedy stars to headline Holmfirth Arts Festival

A TRIPLE comedy bill is to headline Holmfirth Arts Festival.
Comedians Kieran Hodgson, Pete Selwood and Seeta Wrightson, will perform on stage at Holmfirth Civic Hall on Saturday 18 September.
Kieran, a triple Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee, comes home to Holmfirth with a work in progress show.
Previous shows have concerned themselves with France, Cycling, Classical Music, and European Politics.
Kieran, who was born and brought up in Holmfirth, enjoyed an idyllic childhood and will travel from London for the gig.
Kieran said: “To me Holmfirth was magic. I am very, very lucky to have had the childhood that I did and the opportunities for ‘outdoorsy-ness’ that it gave, so it was great having access to all that growing up.”
“I grew up cycling with my dad, mountain biking with my mates, hiking up Black Hill; or bivvying up at Coddy’s Farm and building dams in the river and doing all this wonderful Enid Blyton stuff, that you really, really miss when you live in a big city.
“Holmfirth may be a small rural place but is in fact this hub of life and culture and activity, a whole world sustained now by resident artists and people like the team at Holmfirth Arts Festival.”
He says it is an honour to be asked to headline the event.
Pete Selwood is a frequent face in comedy clubs like Last Laugh, Alexanders, Manfords and The Stand.
Pete's adaptability has seen him form a double act with Jack Carroll for a show entitled 'impairment' which toured the UK. Pete also appeared in a recent sketch for BBC3's Laugh Lessons.
Pete said: “Living in the Holme Valley myself I am very much looking forward to not only performing at the festival, but also having a look around at a few things that are going on as a punter. Holmfirth is a lovely place to live and visit so I’m looking forward to seeing what the festival brings, plus it is nice to be able to gig so close to my house that I could probably walk to the venue. (I won’t though as I’m incredibly lazy and parking is free after 4pm)”
Seeta Wrightson describes herself as “A 5ft 2, fast-talking, proud Bradfordian”.
Bradford born Seeta, an advertising executive who now lives in Leeds, is of mixed race with an Indian mum and a white British dad.
The 33-year-old uses her own life experiences to talk about her dual heritage and finds the funny in navigating the world as a brown, mixed-race woman, who grew up with no money and lots of attitude.
Seeta said: “I’ve been doing comedy gigs for a few years now. I have a day job so it can get pretty hectic if I have a comedy gig in Liverpool on a work night. There are not many Asian mixed race, female comedians around, so yes I talk about it.”
She says her family and friends are hugely supportive of her stand up work: “There seems to be a lot going on in West Yorkshire and the opportunity to perform.
“I’ve always been a bit dramatic anyway so it suits me to be on stage talking about everything.”
Expect high energy, some erratic movements and be prepared for stories with twists you may not see coming.
