HLF 2020 & Cosmia Festival seek performers for open Mic night

Having secured funding from the Arts Council, Huddersfield Literature Festival will take place on 19 - 29 March 2020. For its inaugural launch event the Festival is supporting the new Cosmia Festival with a special Open Mic night for poetry, prose and performance.

The one-off Open Mic night will be held in a unit at the Piazza on Saturday 26 October from 7pm-8pm. The event is free, all are welcome as performers or audience members and there’s no need to book in advance, just turn up on the night.

Held in partnership with the new Cosmia Festival, the UK’s first multi-arts festival dedicated to science fiction, fantasy and speculative fiction, the Open Mic will have a theme of ‘What Will the Future Bring?’. It’s one of several events taking place in the town on 26 and 27 October, as part of the inaugural Hudds Indie Festival, a weekend to celebrate everything great about the independent business scene in Huddersfield.

Festival Director, Michelle Hodgson, said: “It’s great to see a new festival celebrating the vibrant independent sector in the town and we are pleased to support Hudds Indie Festival with our Open Mic evening.”

She continued: “Independent businesses are hugely important for the vitality of Huddersfield, and the new Huddersfield Blueprint has shown that culture, the arts and events all feature strongly in the future success of the town. HLF delivers innovative and high-profile events every year and we already have some exciting plans for our next Festival in March 2020.”
