: High relief hand carved image of a young boy angel, looking adoringly onwards. His hands are together in prayer and the colour of the sap wood, just below the bark creates an illusion of shadow at his rear. The background to the figure is painted in bright pastel blue, a good contrast to the natural colour of the wood. This carving was inspired by the wood itself, a hint of a wing showing on the rough surface of the plank, and also the wondrous curls of our children’s hair. A small knot forms his eyeball. As a child I loved the idea of angels, ever present and watchful. This angel however is young and adoring without knowledge, blindly following his path without question. Blissful ignorance.
