Jane Anderson-Brown

Jane Anderson-Brown Soprano, Flute and Saxophone Player, Musical Director and Coach

Jane has many years experience of teaching, conducting and performing, beginning with school performances and covering a wide variety of musical styles.

As a singer she has created operatic roles for Stephen McNeff and Howard Moody, and taken part in numerous premieres for friends and colleagues. She has sung just about everything from Puccini to Pink Floyd, but is primarily a classical soprano. She has performed in operas all over the country and has recently been working with New Devon Opera for whom she will sing the Aunt in Madam Butterfly in summer 2012. As a concert singer she has performed in recital and chamber works as well as singing as a soloist with larger groups - including last night of the Proms events on Eastbourne Bandstand and at the Palace Theatre in Paignton. She has won many prizes in competitive music festivals, including in 2012 winning the Rose Bowl for best overall singer in the Torbay and South West of England Festival heldin Paignton.

She has also played flute and saxophones in orchestras, wind bands and funk bands, and has worked in local theatre pit bands.

As a conductor/musical director, she has directed shows and operettas, coached opera choruses and many choirs both established and ad hoc. She has run singing groups for singers at all levels including a very successful “Can’t Sing Club”, which demonstrated that even those who have been told they can’t sing, can! She has worked for Sing-Up – the government backed scheme to encourage singing in primary schools, and has regularly led whole school singing sessions.

Since moving to Paignton in July 2009, she has been building up a teaching practice in Torbay, as well as looking for performing opportunities in the area. She has conducted the Teignmouth and Ivybridge Community Choirs in performances all over South Devon and at the Birmingham Science Festival. She teaches at Churston Ferrers, Paignton Community College and Ilsham Academy as well as delivering wider opportunities music for Torbay Academy of Performing Arts and conducting their Concert Wind Band. She has also arranged music for TAPA and for her own performing groups.

She has qualified teacher status, enhanced CRB clearance, and a Masters Degree in Music Performance.
