Kirklees Concert Season

Kirklees Concert Season 2022-23

The Kirklees Concert Season is a unique partnership between Kirklees Council and Opera North in which the Orchestra of Opera North brings world class music to Kirklees with its sumptuous orchestral concerts and uplifting chamber concerts. Together with our series of relaxed and friendly organ concerts, we deliver a world-class programme of concerts to Huddersfield and Dewsbury Town Halls, including the much loved Huddersfield University Brass Band Christmas Concerts which return as part of the lunchtime series

Orchestral Concerts
From new commissions from emerging composers to Elgar’s Violin Concerto, and Gershwin’s An American in Paris, Opera North’s world-class orchestral concerts return to Huddersfield Town Hall this September. Bursting with international names, including pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason, trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth, and clarinettist Julian Bliss, the season features a plethora of events perfect for both seasoned concert goers and those wanting to experience orchestral music for the first time.

Lunchtime Chamber Concerts
While away a lunchtime listening to exceptional music, as members of the Orchestra of Opera North perform intimate lunchtime chamber recitals in Dewsbury’s beautiful Town Hall. They’ll be joined by distinguished guests including Welsh soprano Fflur Wyn, and the santoor virtuoso Eeshar Singh. And once again the University of Huddersfield Brass Band will return with their Christmas Extravaganza

Lunchtime Organ Concerts
Guest Curator David Pipe has once against selected the brightest and best, to bring together an engaging series of lunchtime organ concerts at Huddersfield Town Hall. From season debuts and works by contemporary composers, to more traditional repertoire, this is certain to be a spectacular showcase for the famous Father Willis organ. Dr Gordon Stewart, Organist Emeritus will make a welcome return and the University of Huddersfield will be back with their annual Christmas Concert.

David Pipe is Cathedral Organist for the Diocese of Leeds and is also Artistic Director of the Leeds International Organ Festival and Head of Organ Studies at the University of Huddersfield. Acknowledging the loyalty and sense of community inspired by the Organ Concert Season, David and the Council will work with audiences to determine the best course for the long-term programme for Huddersfield Town Hall's famous Father Willis organ, which dates back to 1860.
