#HEARTyourtown - Kirklees Garden Stories

Slaithwaite based artists Ammie Flexen and Kathleen Yore ran the Kirklees Garden Stories project during the summer of 2020. The project and installations were inspired by the outdoor spaces, gardens and nature that were important to many people during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

Ammie talks about the project that worked with 300 schools children and local residents which resulted in 2 beautiful ceramic gardens in Dewsbury and Huddersfield town centres over the summer. The gardens shared our collective experience of lockdown, celebrating our NHS staff and keyworkers and remember all those affected by Covid-19.

Kirklees Garden Stories was part of #Heart Your Town- a creative response to brighten up Huddersfield and Dewsbury and enhance public spaces to enjoy in a socially distant way. The ceramic garden has now been brought inside and is on display in the old PoundWorld in the PIazza shopping centre in Huddersfield.
