Take part in Kirklees Garden Stories this summer

Kirklees residents are invited to take part in the Garden Stories project this summer, contributing to two colourful ceramic gardens to be created by Slaithwaite based artists Ammie Flexen and Kathleen Yore. The gardens will be popping up in Dewsbury and Hudderfield town centres this August and will share our collective experience of lockdown, celebrate our NHS staff and keyworkers and remember all those affected by Covid-19.

Ammie and Kathleen invite residents of all ages to have a go at making miniature gardens. and have created a short ‘How to…” film to help inspire you and get you making which can be found on the ‘Kirklees Garden Stories’ facebook page.

Gardens can be made with any materials you have to hand. When you’ve made your garden take a picture and post with a few words about what it means to you using #GardenStories and tag our instagram page @kirkleesgardenstories or post to our facebook page ‘Kirklees Garden Stories’.

The artists will be taking inspiration from the gardens you create to design ceramic flowers, buds and other botanical forms from our spring/summer of lockdown to create striking ceramic gardens in Dewsbury Memorial Gardens and at Mandela Corner in Huddersfield town centre this summer.

This project is part of the #heARTyourTown initiative supported by Kirklees Council and produced by Beam.
