MohammadReza Beladi & Friends - Music from Bushehr

MohammadReza Beladi & Friends - Music from Bushehr

Thursday 4 April
Phipps Hall
1:15pm

Seyed MohammadReza Beladi is a musician and practice-based researcher, originally from Iran, now based in Huddersfield.

He has been a researcher of music and culture of Bushehr (southern Iran) for nearly thirty years.

This performance will feature an ensemble made up of students from the University of Huddersfield, who have been learning music, rhythm and songs as well as folk dances of Bushehr during this academic year.

They will perform different parts of Bushehri music that clarify how this music is affected by different cultures. This culture had been influenced by the people that immigrated to Bushehr 250 years ago. These parts include Neymeh (sea shanties), Neyanban (Iranian Bagpipe), Chardasmal and Moloodi (types of Bushehri dance) and much more.
