Salad Days

Salad Days

The Stevenage Lytton Players Spring 2016 Musical Production is Salad Days to be performed at the Lytton Theatre.

Salad Days is a joyful, fun and light show with no subplot, no hidden meanings and no parody ('though it has been much parodied, including a very funny Monty Python version). It was the longest running show in the West End until My Fair Lady overtook it and has been revived many times by small and medium scale theatres, amateur and professional.

Synopsis
After their graduation Jane and Timothy meet in a park to plan their lives. They agree to get married in secret, however Timothy's parents have urged him to ask his various influential uncles—a Minister, a Foreign Office official, a General and a scientist to find him suitable employment. Tim and Jane, decide that he must take the first job that he is offered which comes from a passing tramp who offers them £7 a week to look after his mobile piano for a month. They discover that when the piano plays it gives everyone close by an irresistible desire to dance! Timothy’s Uncle, the Minister of Pleasure and Pastime, attempts to ban the disruptive music and the piano vanishes. Timothy enlists his scientific Uncle Zed to take them in his flying saucer (yes a flying saucer!) to find it. When it is found, the tramp reappears to tell them that their month is up and the piano must be passed on to another couple. He also reveals that he is the unknown uncle of Timothy (whose parents had referred to "the one we don't mention"). Timothy and Jane look forward to the future with confidence.
