Bird and wildlife illustrator. Mike has a life long interest in birds both as an artist/ illustrator but also as a keen birdwatcher. After winning a national RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) sketching competition at the age of 15 his lifelong vocation was set. After nearly three years on a BA hons degree in Scientific illustration at Middlesex Polytechnic, Mike was offered a post during his work experience at the RSPB HQ in Sandy Bedfordshire. Working for the RSPB for 9 years he left to undertake a career in illustration after being offered the chance to illustrate a field guide on the Birds of the Middle East published by Poyser (now Bloomsbury books). His illustrations regularly appear in nearly every RSPB magazine, throughout its website and on every reserve as identification illustrations in the hides and visitor centres.
As a resident of Torbay mike is involved in the local birdwatching clubs including Devon Birdwatching and Preservation society for which he regularly contributes as art editor and section/article writer. Berry Head, Broadsands (where he has looked after the wintering population of Cirl Buntings for more than 10 years) and Clennon Valley are his favoured birdwatching areas.
