The New Saints are a group of local young volunteers who are working with the community to find new ways to use All Saints church, which has been closed since 1995. The building is cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust, which is the national charity looking after closed churches of particular architectural, historic, or aesthetic merit.

Last year the New Saints were awarded a grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund to open up the building with a series of celebration events engaging different audiences within the Langport community, and we’re ready to open the building for people who want to put on events now.

Our own events include transforming the church into a children’s cinema complete with beanbags, duvets, cushions and sleeping bags for a cinema night; a digital heritage trail where users scan QR codes to link to webpages highlighting the heritage of the building; and a Hunky Punk Art Project workshop and showcase (Hunky Punks are like gargoyles, but peculiar to Somerset) where local schools and community clubs have made their own Hunky Punks and shared them for display. The Hunky Punk art project has been built up in partnership with Somerset Art Works with whom we’ve been able to recruit professional artists, mentors and placements.
