The Ditch Daisies - Evening of Original Poetry and Music

The Ditch Daisies - Evening of Original Poetry and Music

Prize winning Canadian queer feminist poet Lisa B performs her entertaining, provoking, original and beautiful work in experimental fusion with live Celtic music, loops, and samples from Andrew and Jules of Re-Jig and Paddy's Whiskers.

Ryan's Bar, Abbey Road, Torquay. Sunday 11th January 2009. Free Entry. Doors at 8:00pm. Performance at 9:00pm.

Lisa is a spoken word poet who's lived in Manchester since June of 2007. Her rhythmic and conversational poetry is articulate, passionate, political, occasionally raunchy, and frequently very funny. There is a gentle patience amidst an urgent fire in her which makes for a powerful and accessible performance and message.

She was one of six poets chosen nation-wide to participated in a 6 month artistic development program funded by Apples & Snakes, doing residencies at Contact Theatre in Manchester, at the Birmingham Rep Theatre, and the Battersea Arts Centre. She has self-published her fifth collection of poetry, "Diving for Shiny Things," and collaborated with Manchester musicians to record her second cd, "Resonant Frequencies" which is released in December 2008.

Before moving to England, she spent six weeks living in a tent under an olive tree in Southern Spain. Her immediate neighbours included Andrew and Jules, a mandola player and fiddle player. Naturally the three formed a poetry + music ensemble, dubbed themselves "the Ditch Daisies" and delighted audiences as well as themselves with their poetry and music fusion. Andrew and Jules' sensitive and playful musicianship make for an evocative experimental accompaniment to Lisa's poetry and the three have an infectiously good time onstage.
